Growing up I used to know only Fluorescent tubes. To us there were
the most amazing and classy lights. They have been around like “forever”. Fluorescent tube is a low pressure mercury-vapour gas-discharge
lamp that
uses fluorescence to
produce visible light.
Well I am not writing an article about fluorescent tubes rather I want to talk about
LED
tubes. I guess you are all wondering why then are you talking about them or
even defining them? Well that's a good question. I want to use a technique of
comparison enabling you to make an informed decisions when next you want to buy
your lighting.
To me the adoption of LED tube technology falls into three
categories: trust, technology, and cost. Do people trust this new technology
over and above the one they are used to in this case fluorescent tubes? Well LED
tubes are an excellent and energy-efficient replacement for conventional
fluorescent tubes. LED’s can last as long as 50,000 to 100,000 hours, which is
a full 3 to 6 years longer than fluorescent and neon. Not only do they outlast
other bulbs, but because they don’t have any gases that can leak out and cause
dimness, they also maintain a better level of brightness throughout their
lifespans.
LED tube lights are green and
eco-friendly lighting fixtures without any hazardous materials such as mercury
and lead. They will not cause any environment pollutions when they are
disposed. With Fluorescent, disposal
has to be arranged through a registered waste carrier so switching to LED
avoids the cost and time implications required for compliant disposal – and
helps to protect the environment from further toxic waste.
The fact that LED tubes last longer
than the fluorescent means that the cost is also less. You don’t have to
constantly change it thereby cutting the cost of replacing. LEDs consume far
less power than fluorescent tubes. While fluorescents are technically energy
saving light sources compared to incandescent bulbs, when contrasted with LEDs,
there is no contest. LEDs use less electricity, which is better for the
environment and your pocket.
After knowing about LED tubes I decided
to change as well. It is always good to move
with technology, you don’t get left behind. We live in a changing world and
also with lighting things are changing. Let’s embrace it and make our lives better than before. If you are in South Africa and you need LED tubes, please contact AfriLED, wholesalers
of LED lighting and electrical products and are sole distributors of
Limelight LED Lights. They have a swap-out guarantee (up to 4 years) on LED
products which is the longest in the country which means that they will provide
